The days when finding your way on the hills after dark meant following the weak yellow-ish beam cast by a traditional bulb have long gone.

Now, LEDs are the order of the day – and night – and the technology gets better with each passing year.

Black Diamond’s latest headtorch can be recharged via a USB cable, meaning more flexibility when travelling away from home.

The ReVolt, is a fully featured, no-compromise light that can use either rechargeable power or traditional alkaline batteries, the company said.

Black Diamond said: “The headlamp can be recharged directly via USB cable wherever there is power including vehicles, solar-energy panels and of course plug sockets, making it extremely versatile and perfect for long trips away as it can always be re-charged no matter how remote or isolated there will always be a power source for the ReVolt.

“The ReVolt features one triple-power LED, two single-power white LEDs and 2 single-power red LEDs which emit up to 110 lumens.

“Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode.

“The ReVolt also has a three-level power meter which shows remaining battery life for three seconds after switching on headlamp and it is protected against splashing or sprayed water from any angle.”

The ReVolt weighs 97g and will appear in the shops later this year, priced £69.99.
