Police have pleaded with hillgoers to think carefully before heading for the Scottish mountains after two people were rescued in a night-time operation on a munro.
Central Scotland Police said walkers should be properly equipped and experienced in the light of a series of serious incidents recently.
The force was contacted yesterday about 4.20pm by two people in difficulty on Ben More in the southern Highlands.
The man, aged 25 and a 21-year-old woman, both from Lancashire, rang for help from the 1,174m (3,852ft) mountain near Crianlarich.
A Central Scotland Police spokesperson said: “A Royal Navy helicopter was deployed but was unable to rescue the party due to the extreme weather conditions in the area at the time.
“The party was located by the Killin Mountain Rescue Team about 9.15pm, and was safely brought off the hill by 11.55pm.”
The spokesperson said the pair were uninjured, adding: “There have been several serious incidents in the Scottish mountains over recent days and weeks.
“We would urge anyone considering visiting the mountains to carefully consider their actions, ensure they are properly equipped, experienced and aware of what to do in the event of difficulties.”

15 February 2013Call me parochial but the unfortunate people who have been lost or worse on the hills recently didn't live in Scotland and probably don't experience our weather on a regular basis. I get the feeling they don't understand how bad it can be because it's 'only Scotland'. Sorry if this offends anyone but it's just an opinion and I'm truly sad for the ones who have perished. I'm a walker myself but know my limitiations.

15 February 2013I wonder if it's the "magazine" effect. Was Ben More in any recent article in a walking magazine? I'm fairly experienced walking in Scotland, but I knew last Saturday NOT to attempt any walks around Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday as weather conditions would be bad.

16 February 2013I have climbed Ben More's neighbour, Stob Binnian and it was hard enough in the height of summer with water still running down the hill making the going very soggy. Hate to think what it would be like covered in snow as the water underneath would be frozen.

17 February 2013A number of those killed this year have been experienced and equipped. Its not just novices getting into difficulty.
