A paraglider was rescued after injuring himself while landing on a Lakeland fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.30pm today, Friday, and 14 volunteer members went to the scene near the foot of Whiteside, north-east of Crummock Water.

The man, in his 50s and from Keswick, injured his leg while trying to land on the hillside.

The team’s doctor and aircrew paramedics from the Great North Air Ambulance treated the man at the scene before Cockermouth MRT members carried him to the Pride of Cumbria aircraft which then airlifted him to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
