Catrin Patterson, who trekked to Everest Base Camp to raise cash for Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team

A woman has raised more than £3,000 for a mountain rescue team by trekking to Everest Base Camp.

Catrin Patterson’s Himalayan venture will help the Porthmadog-based Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team’s appeal for a new headquarters.

Ms Patterson, who is originally from Porthmadog, flew out to Lukla in early November and trekked for 10 days to reach Everest Base Camp. She then walked up to the 5,647m summit of Kala Patthar before returning to Lukla.

She raised a total of £3,015 in her fundraising campaign, which will go towards the new rescue centre to house the team’s two Land Rovers, its boat and specialist rescue equipment.

Press officer Gethin Edwards said: ”The team is grateful to Ms Patterson for her hard work in raising these much needed funds which take us a step closer to completing the construction of our new base in Porthmadog.

“It costs in excess of £6,000 to run the team annually, and we wholly rely on voluntary donations such as this as we receive no government funding.

“The base will allow us to store our lifesaving equipment, and also give us a facility for training and managing around 70 incidents that we respond to each year

“The team would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards Ms Patterson’s expedition, and the construction of our new base.”

The Aberglaslyn team’s area covers part of the Snowdonia national park.
