The walker was airlifted from Ben Nevis after injuring his leg

A walker was airlifted from Britain’s highest mountain after injuring himself.

The 31-year-old man called 999 about 4pm after he slipped and injured his leg while coming down Ben Nevis yesterday, Monday.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called out and a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter flew to the scene from HMS Gannet in Ayrshire.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “The male was quickly located near to the Red Burn above Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe and subsequently airlifted from the hill.”

The walker was flown to Belford Hospital in Fort William for further medical treatment.
