Mountain rescuers had a New Year’s Eve callout after a walker was taken ill on a Lakeland fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted today at 2.40pm and went to the aid of the woman on Mellbreak above Loweswater.

The 59-year-old was treated by the team, stretchered from the hillside to the waiting Great North Air Ambulance which then flew her to hospital.

The rescue involved 27 members of the Cockermouth team.
