They grace the bodies of all sorts of athletes, from Olympians to rugby prop forwards, and now compression garments are on offer for outdoor enthusiasts.

The body-hugging clothing is claimed to enhance performance by increasing blood flow to muscles and maintaining heat.

Sports brand Spiro’s S252X Compression Bodyfit Long Sleeve Base Layer is aimed at fast-moving outdoor fans and, according to the company, is a more technical performance baselayer.

Spiro said: “The S252X features innovative oscillation muscle support.

“Designed to fit tightly to the skin and all contours of the body to reduce bulk, the Compression Bodyfit Base Layer increases the body’s flow of blood as the garment acts on the core muscle groups; this enhances overall performance as well as providing thermal benefit.”

The unisex top features four-way stretch for enhanced movement; anti-bacterial properties; breathable contour fit panels and wicking Cool Dry yarn to keep the wearer dry and comfortable. The top also has cover-stitch seams to prevent skin chaffing and comes with silicone print detail on the elbows.

The S252X Compression Bodyfit Long Sleeve Base Layer retails at £16 and comes in sizes XS to XXL in Black/Red, Grey/Mauve and White.
