The man was walking between Glenridding and Howtown

A walker had to be rescued after becoming unwell during a Lake District outing.

The 83-year-old man was on a route between Glenridding and Howtown when he was unable to continue his walk due to tiredness.

Cumbria Constabulary called out Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team shortly before 4pm to aid the walker.

An ambulance paramedic treated him at the scene and a rescue team ambulance then took him to a waiting land ambulance at Sandwick.

He was taken to hospital in Penrith for further treatment.
