A walker on a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition was rescued after collapsing on a Lake District fell.

The 19-year-old was with a group on the hillside above Rosthwaite when he complained of stomach pains.

The man was unable to stand, and 12 members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team went to his aid after being alerted shortly after midday today, Wednesday.

He was treated at the scene, at Scale Close Coppice on the lower slopes of Dale Head, before being stretchered down to the village where an ambulance took him to Keswick Hospital for observation and treatment.

The rescue took just over two hours.
