Footwear brand brasher is to introduce separate new sock ranges aimed specifically at men and women.
The company, best known for its walking boots, said research showed women’s feet cope with the outdoors differently from men’s and the socks have been designed to help the two sexes get the best comfort from their footwear.
brasher said: “What really sets these socks apart from competitors is the gender-specific technology.
“Existing scientific reports show that men’s feet don’t get as cold as women but do produce more moisture, hence the use of Coolmax fibres to keep the feet dry.
“Women, however, are more likely to feel the cold and therefore Thermo° Cool Technology has been used to regulate the body’s natural temperature and act as a thermal buffer.”
The complete range is manufactured in the UK, brasher said and comprises four-season and three-season styles, designed to complement brasher’s range of walking and hiking footwear, including the new Fellmaster GTX and bestselling boot Hillmaster GTX.
The Mountain Master Men’s and Mountain Master Women’s have the warmth benefits of Merino Wool Ultra, which the company said has been spun into a twistless yarn for 30 per cent less friction, faster drying and moisture absorption.
Mountain Master is designed for winter trekking whether it’s in the Himalaya or the Lake District.
Priced at £17 a pair, the socks come in grey and purple for women and charcoal and black for men.
The Trekmaster is a four-season sock designed for winter trekking and features merino wool with Meraklon fibres for extra warmth and the ability to keep the foot dry.
The men’s version features a comfort-fit cuff while the women’s has a soft-knit cuff, to hold the sock in place in comfort all day long.
Colourways are olive and dark olive or navy and charcoal for men and light rose for women and the socks retail at £15 per pair.
The Hillmaster is, according to brasher, perfect for hillwalkers, dog-walkers and those who enjoy a ramble through the countryside.
The new three-season Hillmaster socks complement brasher’s bestselling leather walking boot.
Like the Mountain Master, the men’s version features Coolmax fibres while the women’s sock contains Thermo° Cool technology. Merino Wool Ultra provides warmth while a specific anatomical fit, with a support cuff for men and a comfort fit cuff for women, ensure the sock is gently held in place, the company said.
Colourways are charcoal and orange or navy and light blue for men and lilac and berry or dark ecru and turquoise for women. Hillmaster socks retail at £15 a pair.
The Fellmaster is a new three-season sock which brasher said will take you comfortably from the hills to the fells.
“Men can feel the benefit of cool and dry feet with Coolmax fibres, while women benefit from the mix of merino wool and Coolmax fibres for added warmth,” it said. “Fellmaster sock also benefits for the unique gender specific fit.”
They are available in grey and grey or navy and graphite for men and purple rose and marine for women. Typical price is £13.50 per pair.
The new range is expected to be in shops from August.
