A woman was airlifted from a fell after suffering a suspected broken wrist.
Two mountain rescue teams went to the woman’s aid shortly after 1pm on Monday after she was reported injured after taking a tumble on the path between Great Gable summit and Windy Gap.
Keswick and Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Teams both went to the 42-year-old woman’s aid, with 11 volunteers from the former and 15 from the latter involved.
The Great North Air Ambulance managed to land on the summit plateau of Great Gable and after treatment at the scene, she was flown to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

30 May 2012While the details are lacking, it may be that this was a case where someone could possibly have walked themselves off the fell and attended A&E without Mountain Rescue teams and the expense of a helicopter.

My sympathy to the woman concerned and I know broken wrists can be painful but doesn't two rescue teams, 26 volunteers and a chopper seem a bit OTT for 'a suspected broken wrist'?
