A charity walker was rescued after becoming exhausted on England’s highest mountain.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 6.10pm yesterday, Sunday when the man was unable to descend any further from Scafell Pike after reaching the Brown Tongue area below Hollow Stones.
The walker was part of a large charity group.
Nineteen volunteers from the Wasdale team were called out to deal with the incident.
A spokesperson for the team said: “Due to concerns for his health a Sea King from RAF Boulmer was requested.
“The casualty was treated on scene and then was winched onto the helicopter for transfer to Whitehaven Hospital.”
The rescue concluded at 10pm.

24 September 2012no point collecting money for charity if you end up costing another charity like M.R money. if you beleive in a charity, just flaming well give to it, as i do, i don't need some prat hawking himself around the world at great expense ( on a jolly almost ) while the rest of us graft/work . there are always 1 or 2 exceptions that have raised loads, but far too many copycat things that are ruining the fells. see litter at scafell p story too !

12 April 2017Well said, Bob.
'Man wants sponsored for thing he would have done anyway'.
The explosion in charitable events is making certain parts of the UK's national parks (Ben Nevis, Scafell, Snowdon, Yorkshire Three Peaks) a total no-go for about 7 months of the year now. A lot of them don't even seem to be enjoying it, or interested in the places they go (memorable overheard quotes by YTP walkers include 'why would anyone do this for fun').
Add to that, the strain on local facilities and services, not to mention the Lake District which sees barely a penny from the in-and-out-as-quickly-as-possible-by-darkness dash up and down Skafell, but all of the littering, traffic, pollution and outdoor toilet stops!
