Mountain rescue teams spent much of yesterday helping stranded motorists and dealing with emergencies caused by heavy snow in the Peak District.
Edale Mountain Rescue Team was called out by Derbyshire Police after drivers and occupants of vehicles on the A57 Snake Pass got stuck in the snow.
The road, from Sheffield to Glossop, runs between the national park’s two highest peaks, Kinder Scout and Bleaklow.
A spokesperson for the team said: “Team members spent two hours clearing the road to reach a number of vehicles which had become stuck before evacuating four drivers to our base in Hope.
“While this operation was underway, a vehicle and team doctor were sent to Losehill Hall where a diabetic patient was reported to be fitting with the ambulance service unable to reach them.
“Later in the day, team members also responded at the request of the police to a road traffic collision near Froggatt and trapped motorists between Bakewell and Monyash, along with Buxton and Kinder MRTs.”
Oldham, Glossop and Woodhead MRTs also spent the day helping stranded motorists on the high routes through their areas.
The wintry conditions had eased today with bright periods after a frosty start. Temperatures are expected to rise slowly towards seasonal norms as Easter approaches.
