A woman was rescued from a fell after breaking her ankle while walking.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team members were alerted at 4.45pm yesterday, Sunday, after the walker slipped near Green Crag in Eskdale.

Seventeen team members took part in the rescue, which lasted almost four hours, ending as light started to fade on the first day of British Summer Time.

The woman was given pain relief, her leg was splinted and she was then stretchered down to Birkerthwaite, 2km (1¼ miles) east of the incident.

The callout was the team’s 14th of the year.
