A family called for help after getting stuck coming down a mountain.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the husband and wife and their 20-year-old son on Tryfan on Saturday – the third rescue for the team on the same mountain that weekend.

The trio, from Ellesmere Port on Merseyside, set out to tackle the grade-one scramble up the North Ridge of the Snowdonia mountain in windy and cloudy conditions.

Chris Lloyd of the Ogwen Valley team said: “They decided they weren’t able to complete the route and started their descent, but they ended up going down a gully which leads to vertical drops on the West Face.

“The husband managed to find a way round but the son and wife couldn’t get down.

“The man made his way down to the road to get a better mobile signal and telephoned the team.

Eighteen members of the OVMRO went to the walkers’ aid about 4.25pm.

Mr Lloyd said the son had also made his way down leaving mum on her own.

Rescuers requested the help of a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey and the helicopter winched the woman to safety was able to bring her down to Oggie base.

All three were unhurt.
