Waterproofing specialist Nikwax has teamed up with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which helps more than 200,000 young people each year get into the great outdoors.
Among activities DofE Award candidates have to undertake are expeditions ranging from two to four days, and Nikwax’s range has been selected by the charity as the approved products for waterproofing gear and tents.
The East Sussex-based company has field-tested six of its products with the DofE as suitable for use on expeditions and other outdoor activities for young people, aged between 14 and 25, undertaking the award.
Nick Brown, Nikwax founder and managing director, said: “We are very proud to be working with the DofE to maximize the life of gear and kit on all expeditions and activities.
“Even the most technical and advanced kit needs looking after and our cleaning and waterproofing solutions do just that. Our safe, effective products will help young people stay drier, explore further and enjoy more of the outdoors.
“You can treat kit safe in the knowledge that no harm will be done to it, you, or the environment. Additionally, kit that is looked after will work better for longer, extending the enjoyment of the outdoors, saving money on replacements and keeping items out of landfill.”
Nikwax products on the DofE approved list are: Tech Wash, TX.Direct, Footwear Cleaning Gel, Fabric & Leather Proof, Nubuck & Suede Proof and Tent & Gear SolarProof.
