Mountain rescuers were joined by a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth after a woman injured herself jumping into a gorge at a Highland beauty spot.

Police and ambulance staff were called to the Falls of Bruar near Blair Atholl at 2pm today.

The 40-year-old woman suffered back injuries after jumping into the water during a canyoning event in the Tower Bridge area. A spokesperson for Tayside Police said: “The woman was quickly out of the water, but remained in difficulty due to back pain to at the foot of a 12ft-deep part of the gorge.”

Tayside Mountain Rescue Team and paramedics treated the woman, who was described by police as ‘conscious and breathing’ at the scene and she was airlifted by the Sea King to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for further treatment.
