A mountain rescue team is better off to the tune of £300, thanks to a pub music festival.

Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team collected the cash from a beer and live music event at the King’s Arms in the town earlier in the summer.

Landlady Janet Cross handed over the proceeds from the July festival to team members Steve Howarth and Raffe Coleman at the pub.

The 35-strong rescue team covers the Howgills and north-western Dales, along with the Orton Fells and part of the northern Pennines.

It evolved from the Bogtrotters walking club in the 1960s and in its early days, its rescue gear consisted of a bottle of whisky and a few bandages in a rucksack.

Nowadays, it is a fully fledged and trained mountain rescue team, with most of its volunteers regular hillwalkers and many keen climbers. The team is a member of the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association.
