A man was rescued after injuring himself near a peak on the Cuillin on Skye today.

Members of the Skye Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the 37-year-old after being alerted at midday. The incident happened on Sgùrr nan Eag, the 924m (3,031ft) southernmost munro in the Cuillin range.

The man was found by rescuers about 1.30pm and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter airlifted him to the Dr Mackinnon Memorial Hospital, Broadford, for further treatment.

Twelve team members took part in the rescue, which happened little more than a kilometre from the site of the fatal accident eight days ago on Sròn na Cìche, when South African climber Tessa Cousins was killed by a dislodged boulder. Three others were seriously hurt in the May incident.
