Drinkers throughout the Yorkshire Dales have helped contribute to a grand fundraising effort for a rescue team.
The Cave Rescue Organisation is £1,000 better off thanks to the Dent Brewery’s sales of the special Rescewe Ale, produced to commemorate the organisation’s 75th anniversary.
For each bottle and cask of the special brew sold, the brewery owners made a donation to the Clapham-based rescue team, which responds to incidents on the fells and in the caves of the Yorkshire Dales.
CRO chairman Jack Pickup appropriately picked up a cheque from Judith Beeley of the brewery.
She said: “We felt we should support CRO on the very special occasion of their 75th anniversary because it’s a really great cause, close to our hearts. Obviously, we are based in the Dales, we are long time fellwalkers and know their volunteers do a sterling job in all weathers, 365 days of the year.”
Mr Pickup said “I just want to thank Dent Brewery for their generosity but a lot of the credit should go to team member Steve Domeney who put in an incredible amount of work to get the project up and running.
“Thanks to everyone in the team who went out of their way to promote it into local shops and pubs and, of course, we’d like to thank everyone who has bought the ale.”
The beer featured specially commissioned artwork on its label, showing a CRO rescue Land Rover on the side of Ingleborough with a black sheep on the roof – hence Rescewe.
The label won second prize in the commemorative label category of the Labologists Society’s 2010 awards.
