Two walkers were treated for injuries in separate incidents at a Yorkshire Dales beauty spot today.
The Cave Rescue Organisation was called to help a 77-year-old woman who injured her head in a slip on a rocky path below Thornton Force on the Ingleton waterfalls walk.
The team was alerted at about 2.30pm and went to the woman’s aid. A passing doctor had given the walker first aid and CRO members helped her to their emergency vehicle which carried her to Ingleton from where an ambulance took her to hospital.
CRO members were also told of a second casualty who had suffered a leg injury higher up- the path. A spokesperson said: “A team member was despatched to investigate but found that the injured walker was already with paramedics near Twistleton Hall and no further assistance was required.”
The air ambulance was called but was not used.
Cave Rescue Organisation members also went to the aid of an injured mountain biker at 12.45pm yesterday. The 43-year-old man suffered injuries to his head, chest and back after crashing while coming down Bigfoot Slab at Whelp Stone Crag in Gisburn Forest.
Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team members also treated the man, who was stretchered to a waiting air ambulance and flown to hospital.
Earlier that day, the CRO had successfully rescued a sheep trapped at the foot of an open shaft 11m (36ft) down Pin Hole in Kingsdale, near Ingleton, North Yorkshire.
