A caver was rescued after getting stuck underground in the Yorkshire Dales.

Members of the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation went to the aid of the 34-year-old man at 3.10pm on Thursday when he became wedged in Simpson’s Pot in Kingsdale.

The man was at the top of the 24m (79ft) pitch in Slit Pot in the western Dales.

A spokesperson for the CRO said: “Teams entered the cave from the top and from below via the Kingsdale Master Cave. The casualty was quickly freed and then lowered to the foot of the pitch before being assisted to the surface at Valley Entrance.”

The callout was the team’s ninth of the year.
