The RAF Lossiemouth Sea King was involved in two rescues

A man was airlifted to hospital after falling about 30m (100ft) on Britain’s highest mountain.

Police were alerted about 1.20pm today and members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth flew to the scene on Ben Nevis and he was airlifted to Belford Hospital, Fort William for treatment to injuries said by police not to be life-threatening.

Earlier in the day, the RAF crew was in action after a 48-year-old walker fell and injured his leg in Coire an t-Sneachda on Cairn Gorm.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “RAF Kinloss Mountain Rescue Team personnel who were in the area at the time went to the aid of the climber who was subsequently airlifted by a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.”
