There’s a strong female presence at this year’s Dundee Mountain Film Festival, with top French climber Catherine Destivelle topping the bill, and South African mountaineer Cathy O’Dowd joining musician Anni Hogan.
Hogan and Robert Strachan will play songs from their new album Mountain, inspired by O’Dowd, who will support the performance with her photographs and films.
Destivelle solo-ed the north face of the Eiger in 17 hours and has accomplished scores of other solo climbs. Double Everest summiteer O’Dowd will tell the tale of her successful ascent of the south-west face of Lhotse.
But the men also get a look in, with Hotaches Productions’ 40-minute short the Pinnacle, chronicling Dave MacLeod and Andy Turner’s recreation of Robin Smith and Jimmy Marshall’s 1960 ascent of six Lochaber winter routes.
Away from the rockfaces, Gravitate, a Stefan Morrocco film, showcases the Scottish downhill mountain biking championships, and there’s even an insight into off-road unicycling in Dan Heaton’s Revolution One. 11 Degrees examines the Glenshee ski resort’s attempt to keep going in the face of falling numbers and climate change.
The festival runs on Friday 26 November and Saturday 27 November at Dundee’s Bonar Hall. Further details and booking forms are on the Dundee Mountain Film Festival website.
