Blencathra, scene of the search for the missing walker

A major search is underway for a walker missing on a Lake District fell.

Three mountain rescue teams have been joined by an RAF Sea King helicopter hunting for the 51-year-old man who failed to return from Blencathra yesterday.

The Nottingham man’s wife reported her concerns for him about 8.15pm yesterday, Wednesday.

Members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team mounted a search for the man, who is believed to be wearing waterproofs and possibly a lime-green jacket, last night.

The operation to find the missing hillwalker resumed at 6am today, when the Keswick team was joined by colleagues from the Penrith and Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Teams.
