A man’s body has been found by rescuers searching the River Spey after an angler was reported to have been swept away this morning.

Glenmore Lodge Mountain Rescue Team joined the search along with Coastguard members, an RAF Sea King helicopter from Lossiemouth and river ghillies downstream of the Spey Bridge of Advie near Grantown-on-Spey.

Police confirmed the discovery of a man’s body at 3.30pm in the Blacksboat area, about 8km (5 miles) from where the angler was reported missing.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police would like to thank all the agencies involved and a number of members of the public for their assistance in the search.”

Police later released the identity of the angler. He was named as William Richmond, aged 68 years, from  Middlesex.
