A rescue team is urging walkers to pull on their boots to help it raise funds.
The Cave Rescue Organisation is looking for volunteers to tackle the 39km (24-mile) route over the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
The challenge will involve summiting Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough to bring in cash for the CRO, the Clapham-based team that undertakes rescues both on the fells of the Yorkshire Dales and in the caves underneath them.
The first Three Peaks Challenge run by the organisation took place last year and more than 50 people took part, aged from 11 to 74, with the oldest and youngest completing the course within minutes of each other in just over 10 hours. Traditionally, walkers aim to complete the route, involving about 1,590m (5,217ft) of ascent in 12 hours or less.
The CRO event was the brainchild of former team member and duty controller Phil Haigh, who sadly died before it came to fruition.
Now, team members want the 2010 event to be even better and are searching for strong walkers to take part. They are asking all those who undertake the challenge to donate the first £50 of their sponsorship to the CRO – although they stress they are welcome to pledge the whole amount to the rescuers – and choose whichever other charity should get the rest.
A shorter route, ascending just two of the three peaks, can also be tackled.
The event takes place on Saturday 7 August and a justgiving website can be set up to handle sponsorship.
Walkers can register for the challenge on the Cave Rescue Organisation website.
The organisation celebrated its 75th anniversary this year.
