Police have confirmed that two men have died in a Highland avalanche.
The bodies of the climbers were recovered from the Curved Ridge area of Buachaille Etive Mòr in Glencoe. A statement by Northern Constabulary at 9.15pm said Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team had recovered the bodies of two men at the site.
Police say they do not know the full circumstances of the incident at the moment and no names are being released until all the next of kin have been informed.
The avalanche was witnessed by other climbers, on the north-east face of Stob Dearg at 4.45pm today, Wednesday.

25 February 2010Scary to read and very sad - I was up on Stob Coire nan Lochan yesterday and the snowpack was very unstable up there - I backed off it because of the high risk - could have been anyone that was up in the Glencoe area yesterday,

25 February 2010My thoughts and deepest sympathies to both the families and all involved.
A reminder that unforeseen tragedy can happen at anytime. Climbers know these risks more than most and it's a reminder to us all that each day is precious.
Condolences to those who lost their lives and also to those who were witness, this must be awful for them as well.

25 February 2010This did not happen on Curved Ridge. This mistaken information is misleading and is presented in most of the news reports.
It happened on the Spur bounding the west side of Coire na Tullaich that leads down above Creag Coire na Tullaich towards Creag a Bhancair - a recognised safe descent if the normal corrie descent is unsafe.
This is a classic example of the media publishing the wrong information which is allows people to form incorrect ideas and opinions.
