Mountain rescuers are currently carrying out a search following an avalanche in the Highlands.
A Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth has joined team members from the Kinloss and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Teams at the site on Creag Meagaidh, east of Roybridge.
A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said: “Police are currently co-ordinating a mountain rescue operation following reports of an avalanche in the Creag Meagaidh area between Spean Bridge and Newtonmore.
“The incident was reported at 2.50pm this afternoon. It is not known at this time if anyone was caught up in the avalanche and rescuers have been dispatched to the scene to carry out a search.”
The sportscotland Avalanche Information Service forecast for today on Creag Meagaidh was for the risk of avalanche to be considerable on east-facing aspects above 700m. There are poorly bonded layers of windslab in sheltered areas and the older snowpack is starting to refreeze.
