A woman was airlifted from Britain’s highest mountain yesterday after falling and injuring herself.
The 65-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident on the main tourist track up Ben Nevis. A fellow hillwalker contacted police at Fort William about 4.50pm on Friday and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team went to the woman’s aid.
A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said: “RAF helicopter Rescue 137 [from Lossiemouth] attended and airlifted the casualty to Glen Nevis from where she was taken to Belford Hospital, Fort William, where she was treated for injuries to her left arm.”
Police said no further details of the woman would be released at present.

01 September 2009All the services including, LMRT, RAF, Belford Hospital and the Police carried out a first rate rescue and backup. Also and as important, was the assistance provided by walkers on the path who stopped to help my wife especially when she starting going into shock due to a broken radius bone near her wrist.
Further work will be needed at our local hospital in Manchester but thanks to everyone she is recovering well.
Best wishes to all,
Peter and Joyce
