One of the country’s top climbers will run a masterclass at the annual gathering of Scotland’s mountaineers.
Dave MacLeod, famous for his Echo Wall route high on Ben Nevis’s north face, will also present his new lecture How Soon Is Now to the meeting of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. The event will take place at Glenmore Lodge, the national outdoor training centre.
Heather Morning, the council’s mountain safety adviser, will give an insight into how the Search and Rescue Dogs Association works, with help from her own search dog Milly.
Geoff Monk, who founded and runs the independent meteorological facility the Mountain Weather Information Service, will give an interactive lecture.
The event will culminate in a hog roast, live traditional music and a bar.
David Gibson, MCofS chief officer, said: “The gathering offers something of interest for all mountaineers. It’s a great opportunity to get together and do what mountaineers do best: celebrate the mountains.
“We are delighted to welcome Dave, who features in a range of events and activities which will entertain and inspire Scotland’s climbers and hillwalkers.”
The MCofS membership grew to more than 10,000 this year, and its annual report was upbeat about the organisation, which represents climbers, mountaineers and hillwalkers in Scotland. The gathering will take place on 5 September.
Mr Gibson said: “We look forward to welcoming our members and invited guests to what promises to be one of Scottish mountaineering’s most memorable events of the year.”
