A woman was rescued today after falling and breaking her leg on a Lakeland fell.

The 61-year-old Polish walker slipped while descending from Red Tarn on Helvellyn. Members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to the incident and administered pain relief at the site.

The woman’s foot was realigned and she was then carried from the mountain to a waiting ambulance. She was taken to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

Fifteen members of the Patterdale MRT took part in the rescue.
