A man was taken to hospital after a fall on the Isle of Skye.
Skye Mountain Rescue Team went to the climber’s aid after he fell while descending the Old Man of Storr. A Coastguard helicopter from Stornoway was also involved in the operation.
A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said they were alerted by a 999 call at 11am yesterday, Saturday.
The unnamed man was taken to the MacKinnon Memorial Hospital at Broadford where he was treated.
The police spokesperson said: “The injury sustained is not thought to be serious.”

07 June 2009Yet again an mountain rescue team has been called out because of these macho rock-climbers, I honestly think the time has come to ban unguided rock-climbing. Whats wrong with enjoying the hills the ordinary way ie hillwalking!

08 June 2009As Mcenroe would have said You cant be serious ,Perusal of any MRT statistics will show that more walkers need the assistance of MRT s than climbers .

08 June 2009I was in Arrow Head Gully a couple of weeks ago when two hill walkers had to be rescued (one air lifted), If Ken Hobbs has his way with climbers then maybe its time to ban hillwalking. Live and let live I say.

09 June 2009LOL at Ken Hobbs...very good wind up, Ken.
If you are serious, I would seriously suggest you should look into 2 other accident black-spots...Road traffic accidents and house hold accidents.
Now, compare these 2 accident statistics with rock climbing/hill walking accident statistics and give us your great knowledge again.
Briefly - over 3500 people get killed on the road & Household every year and hardly anyone hears about it on the news; 1 person hurts himself on a crag face and it's headline news....Mmmm.

08 February 2011There seems to be some confusion regarding the activity of the injured party here.
Here is the Skye Mountain Rescue's incident summary from their official website.
"17. Incident: Slip
Location: Old Man of Storr, Trotternish
Date: 06 June 2009 Time: 1100
No of Team Members Involved: 6 Total Team Hours: 12
A male hill walker slipped breaking his leg. The team and R100 attended. The team ascended the footpath to the casualty's location immobilised his broken leg and prepared him for evacuation by R100 who had also been scrambled. He was air lifted to Broadford Hospital by R100."
So, it would appear that there was no rock climbing being done by the "male hill walker" in this instance.
I trust that Mr Hobbs always treads very carefully when out on the hills... heaven forbid he takes a slip and requires MRT assistance, how embarrassing would that be?
