The body of a man was this afternoon found by rescuers searching for a man missing in the Highlands.
A Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth made the discovery at 1.45pm at the foot of Ben Alder. Jonathan Groves had become separated from his walking companion overnight and his disappearance was reported to police.
A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “Although the body has not been formally identified, the search for 24-year-old Manchester man Jonathan Groves has been called to a halt.
“Mr Groves’s next of kin are aware of the development. Formal identification and a post-mortem [examination] will be carried out in due course. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
The search for Mr Groves on Ben Alder and Beinn Bheòil was carried out by mountain rescue teams from Cairngorm, Lochaber, RAF Kinloss and Tayside Police, in addition to officers from the Northern Constabulary.

26 May 2009Rest in Peace Jon.
I am obviously devastated and so are your Uni mates. I cannot believe that you scaled mountains, trekked across the himalayas, ploughed through SE Asia on your own and travelled around China for this to happen.
You were a delight to know and I'm sorry we couldn't make Russia this summer.
RIP Mate.

26 May 2009Awful. Don't know what else to say. I didn't know John very well but always really admired his adventurousness and zest for life. Rest in Peace John. Will be thinking of his family, especially his mum, brother and step-dad.
