An injured woman was carried from the fells today after her party got lost in the Lake District.
Grisedale Tarn: mystery tent retrieved by rescuers
The walker was in a group of four which called for help after losing their way on the Scandale Pass, which links Ambleside and Brothers Water. Ten members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the four women, aided by eight colleagues from the Penrith team.
The group had contacted police who mobilised the MRTs. A spokesman for the Patterdale team said: “The team were called by Cumbria Police to assist a group of four women who were lost in the Scandale Pass area near Brothers Water.
“One of the party was also reported to have injured her arm and to have fainted on a number of occasions. Initially contact with the reporting person was difficult as the mobile signal kept dropping out. “
The Patterdale team’s doctor gave the woman pain relief and she was then carried by stretcher to the rescuer’s vehicle, taken to their base from where she was transferred by ambulance to hospital in Carlisle.
The team was also called to investigate a report of a collapsed tent with ‘red material’ beside it, near Grisedale Tarn. A team member went to the scene and found an extensively damaged, abandoned green tent at the site.
The storm-ravaged tent was brought back down from the tarn by the MRT member.
