An 82-year-old fellwalker was airlifted to hospital after suffering head injuries in a fall.
The man, from Maryport, Cumbria, was injured on Rannerdale Knotts, overlooking Crummock Water, yesterday afternoon. Members of the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team lowered him to safety from the site of the incident, near the summit.
An RAF helicopter then flew him to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for treatment.

30 May 2008I hope he makes a full recovery. If he's a regular walker he should have another 20 years of hiking left in him. I hear the slopes around the Rannerdal Knotts are covered in bluebells - spectacular in the right light.
