Eyewitnesses tell of the struggle to reach the world’s highest peak in a tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary to be screened tomorrow, Wednesday.
The one-hour-long documentary will be shown on BBC2 and includes previously unseen footage of the expedition, along with testimony detailing the controversy involving the successful British expedition and a rival Swiss team.
A Tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary: The Race for Everest tells the tale of Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s ascent of the Himalayan peak, including interviews with surviving members of both the successful team and their Swiss competitors.
The programme lasts for an hour and starts at 7pm.
