A British doctor has died after a climbing accident in Spain.
Ian Burnell died after an 80ft fall while rock climbing near Alicante, in the South of the country. The 26-year-old, from Reading in Berkshire, was pronounced dead by his rescuers.
Spanish police have launched an investigation into the fatality, which happened when Dr Burnell was climbing with three friends. He studied medicine at Cardiff University and spent time working in a Rwandan clinic. He was due to spend a year working in South Africa.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on 30 May at Greyfriars Church, Reading.
