The Ramblers’ Association is urging lovers of all ages to take to the great outdoors to breathe new life into their romance.
Find a secluded spot in the great outdoors for those special moments with your loved one
The association, better known for battling for access rights and keeping footpaths clear, is recommending ten routes to set the heart pounding and the knees trembling.
Ruth Wembridge of the Ramblers’ Association (RA), said: “You don’t have to go to a tropical island or spend a fortune on flowers and expensive dinners to spend quality time together.
“Simply go for a walk in the countryside and let fresh air, beautiful views and peace and quiet breathe new life into your relationship. It’s a great way to get away from it all.”
Top ten walks for the romantics among grough’s readers, according to the RA are:
Lindisfarne, Northumbria
Chiltern Hills and The Ridgeway
Shores of Derwent Water, Cumbria
Hampstead Heath, London
Bronte Moors
Gower Peninsula, Wales
New Forest
Bakewell to Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
South West Coast Path
Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
There’s no doubting that Hampstead Heath sees its fair share of libidinous encounters and there’s a fair chance groughers might catch a glimpse of David Blunkett and his latest conquest on the Chatsworth estate, but we can probably do better in the romantic scenery quest.
How about a trip to the High Peak for a tour of the Devil’s Arsehole, followed by a circuit of the Chapel-en-le-Frith brake lining works? Maybe you fancy a loving embrace next to the demolition site on top of Snowdon.
Or the Lochaber aluminium smelting works before a quick trog along the Carn Mor Dearg arête. That should certainly get the knees vibrating. Actually, there’s probably more lustful goings on in the great outdoors in the numerous dogging sites littering the British countryside near our larger conurbations, but we don’t suspect the RA had those in mind when compiling its Cupid’s list.
Still, it’s not a bad idea to get out there in the bracing air with your loved one, so check out the RA site if you want details or links to the top ten.
We’re off to buy a pack of three and hit the trail. Send us your suggestions and we’ll put them to the test.
