Police have named the climber who died on Cairn Gorm last Friday.
He was 48-year-old Mike Rough, of Devon. His death was the fifth in a little over two months in Coire an-t Sneachda, and followed his 200m fall while soloing Aladdin’s Mirror.
He was seen falling by two other climbers in the corrie who went to his aid and called out the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team. Mr Rough was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, but pronounced dead on arrival.
- Two mountaineers were rescued after spending a night in freezing conditions on Lochnagar at the weekend.
The men, from the Aberdeen area, were found by Braemar Mountain Rescue Team after an emergency bivvy overnight in deep snow. The two, aged 26 and 37, became disoriented and shared the bivvy bag.
They were found on Monday morning, cold but otherwise unhurt.
