A late reminder comes from the organisers of the Nine Edges Endurance, which takes place a week on Sunday.
The 20-mile-long event in the Peak District is a fundraiser for the Edale Mountain Rescue Team’s £150,000 appeal for a new base in Hope (see previous grough story).
So far, the Dark Peak Fellrunners have pledged to get a large contingent into the event, which starts at Ladybower Reservoir in Derbyshire and ends at a pub near Baslow. The Fatboys Running Club is also supporting the challenge.
The MRT is looking for at least 100 contestants, who can walk or run the course and, if they’re competent with a rope and a chalk bag, tackle a climbing route on one of the nine gritstone edges which give the challenge its name.
Anyone interested in entering can find details on the Edale MRT website and can apply by emailing team member Neil Roden at neilroden@tiscali.co.uk.
Minimum entry fee is £10, but the team is hoping as many entrants as possible will secure additional sponsorship to help the appeal, which grough reckons is a bargain.
