A search for a fallen walker by a Snowdonia mountain rescue turned up a mystery dog.
Members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation could find no trace of a human casualty after the Sunday lunchtime callout to Y Garn, but did discover a black and white jack russell stuck on a ledge on the mountain.
The North Wales Police helicopter flew over the area after passing walkers raised the alarm after seeing the dog on the crags at the back of Cwm Cywion, north-west of the mountain summit.
Chris Lloyd of the Ogwen Valley team said: “The helicopter could not find a fallen walker, so the team went to retrieve the dog.
“A search later on by 22 Squadron from RAF Valley, who were in the area, also proved negative.
“Team members took some time to be able to locate the dog, having walked in from the bottom of the cwm and of course the dog had been spotted from the ridge above.
“With failing light, steep broken ground and poor ground conditions, it was decided that the rescue be left until Monday morning. They had managed to get within about 25m of the dog but access was extremely poor.”
Mr Lloyd said another team of four went to the site this morning. “Once again they had to cope with poor steep ground but eventually were able to climb up and rescue the little bitch,” he said.
“She was tucked into Brian Robbins’s jacket and he abseiled down.
“The dog was without collar and has been taken to the vet to check for a microchip. But no one has reported a missing dog.”

21 January 2014Glad to hear it ended well, we could hear the dogs cries echoing round Cwm Cywion but we weren't sure if it was from a dog belong to another party on the hill. Think a few folks must have called it in. You never know it could have been an dog with an injured owner.

21 January 2014Glad the dog was reunited with it's owner. It was my husband who called in the found dog as it was unsafe for their group to try and rescue it themselves. After a lovely weekend away he returned concerned about the dog and it clearly put a sad ending to his trip. He is very pleased to hear the dog is safe, well and home :-)
